ABSTRACT STATE OF MIND
Started in the early 1990s with an acute sense of the shifting discourse of the XX century, the ASOM Collection has grown to become a meeting point between the European Avant-gardes of the XX century and iconic examples of the US Post-War Abstraction.
Aimed to invite questions that expand the established canons of art, the collection has supported since its inception the female artists and explored the entangled histories of East and West and their shared modernities.
Guided by the founder’s conviction that the ideas and the experiences of the XX century art cannot be reduced to certain groups or geographies excluding others, the collection encourages a transnational vision of art history. Artists’ own personal histories and trajectories, often disrupted by the historical events of the past century and scattered across different countries and continents, come to support this notion.
Works from the collection are regularly on view internationally through an active loan program.
